At Griffin Orthodontics, we provide an experience like no other! Most people don’t associate the orthodontic office with fun, but our patients do! It is our goal to make sure everyone LOVES coming to their appointments. Why not enjoy your time, while we perfect your smile!
When it comes to your orthodontic treatment, we encourage you to choose the type of braces that fits your lifestyle. Regardless of which method you choose, your treatment time will be determined by your needs. Treatments may vary from six months to 30 months, and you’ll need to visit Dr. Griffin every four to eight weeks for adjustments. During your complimentary consultation at our West Allis orthodontic office, Dr. Griffin will explain how long your treatment will take.
How Orthodontic Treatment Works
Orthodontic appliances are made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. They may be removable or they may be brackets bonded to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to the proper position.
Gone are the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth. You can now choose clear or metal brackets and, in some cases, the color of your appliance. Wires are far less noticeable, and the latest materials are designed to move teeth faster with more comfort. Today, any age is a great age to wear braces!
Duration of Treatment
Treatment time varies and can last between one and three years, depending on several factors including age, treatment method, and how minor or severe your case is. A big factor in a successful treatment is you! The more involved and diligent you are, the more efficient your treatment will be. For children, receiving interceptive or early treatment can also help provide a quicker treatment time.
Before beginning your orthodontic care, your doctor will discuss all of your options and provide an estimate for how long your full treatment may take. Please contact our practice to schedule an appointment and learn more about orthodontics and the treatments we provide.
Treatment Options Available
Traditional metal braces are your “typical” braces. They are the most common type, utilized in all variations of treatments, on patients of all ages.
Ceramic or “cosmetic” braces are just like metal braces, except they are clear or tooth colored. This makes them less noticeable than traditional metal braces. Dr. Griffin uses ceramic braces in all variations of treatments, on patients of all ages.
Clear aligners (Invisalign®) are clear, nearly invisible, removable aligners that can be used for teens and adults. Invisalign clear aligners are less noticeable than braces and allow the patient to have minimal food restrictions.
Additional Appliances are appliances that are added to the braces or invisalign to help correct a bite discrepancy. We utilize a wide range of orthodontic appliances. These appliances, if needed, will be discussed during the initial consultation.
