How Often Do You See an Orthodontist with Invisalign?

Posted on December 29th, 2020 by Dr. David J. Griffin

Invisalign® clear aligners deliver the stunning smile you’ve always wanted without the hassles of traditional braces. During the treatment process, Invisalign® patients visit their orthodontist once every six weeks on average. These regular but infrequent office visits ensure your treatment is progressing as planned and allow you to pick up your next set of aligners.

Between visits, you’ll need to wear your aligners 20 to 22 hours a day. You should remove them before eating, brushing, and flossing, but otherwise they should stay put. Maintaining this strict schedule keeps your overall treatment time as short as possible and enforces positive oral health habits.

Keeping your aligners in place for 22 hours a day might seem like a lot to ask, but traditional braces stay in place for years. The luxury of removing your orthodontics lets you continue to enjoy the foods you love. Plus, it makes flossing significantly easier. Best of all, Invisalign® clear aligners are virtually invisible, so you can smile with pride from day one of your treatment!

For Invisalign® to work, you swap out your aligner trays for a new set to keep your teeth moving. Thankfully, you won’t have to see your orthodontist that often. Although each orthodontic treatment plan is different, we typically give patients three sets of aligners at each office visit. So, you’ll only have to stop by every six weeks for new aligners.
